The Cypress Creek Watershed Protection Plan aims to ensure the preservation of the long-term beauty, integrity and sustainability of the Cypress Creek watershed and that water quality standards are maintained for present and future generations. The plan incorporates groundwater and surface water components, spans agency jurisdictions, and is comprehensive in its approach for maintaining the balance between natural resource management and economic development.
We are fast approaching ten years of stakeholder-driven watershed planning and, as we enter the exciting implementation phase, the plan—a living document—will continue to evolve and adapt to reach our shared goals. The creation of the Cypress Creek Watershed Plan and its initial implementation are funded in part through grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Please click here for a summary of the plan. For information on current funded implementation activities, please visit the Project Documents and the Implementation Scope of Work on our newly redesigned website.
In the coming months, we will be hosting several meetings, trainings and workshops, as well as installing rainwater harvesting systems, rain gardens and other best management practices to prevent and mitigate pollution. The team is also working on several technical reports, reviewing water quality trends, and even writing a book and educational hand out series. We’ll tell you more about that soon. Please let us know if you would like to contribute photos, original artwork or personal stories about the creek for use in the book and handouts.
