Cypress Flows: Cypress Creek Project Update - September 2018

We hope everyone's summer is wrapping up nicely. Fall will be here before we know it, and hopefully we can put this warm weather behind us for a while!

To recap progress on the Cypress Creek Project since our last newsletter, The Meadows Center introduced two new staff members earlier this year that have been great additions to the Cypress Creek Project, installation of best management practices (BMPs) have taken off, a project amendment has been executed to extend funding for watershed protection plan (WPP) implementation through February 2020 and a revised Quality Assurance Protection Plan (QAPP) is awaiting final approval from TCEQ. The Meadows Center has also coordinated the development of a multi-county feral hog management program, the Central Texas Feral Hog Task Force, resulting in the documented removal of over 1,000 wild pigs from Hays, Caldwell and Guadalupe County in 2018!

Our goals for the rest of 2018 include: the evaluation and enhancement of water quality ordinances for project partners; the installation of additional BMPs in Woodcreek, Blue Hole Regional Park and at the Wimberley Valley Watershed Association; the augmentation of our water quality monitoring regime with two new surface water sites and two monitoring wells; and the development of an interlocal agreement among project partners to ensure local funding for sustained monitoring efforts.
