Cypress Flows: Cypress Creek Project February 2019 Newsletter

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year! The new year brings new goals for the Cypress Creek Project, including enhancing water quality ordinances, development of an interlocal agreements among project partners to ensure the longevity of the goals within the Cypress Creek Watershed Protection Plan, and more Best Management Practices (BMPs) throughout the watershed.

Pictured below is the first BMP of 2019! Next time you are at Blue Hole Regional Park, be sure to keep an eye out for these lovely permeable paver ADA parking spots. Permeable pavers help manage stormwater runoff by allowing rainwater to infiltrate through their porous pavers. Permeable pavers protect the Cypress Creek Watershed by promoting recharge, reducing stormwater runoff, and reducing the potential for pollutants to enter our waterways.

Progress continues on the new WISD One Water primary school. In January the WISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved an MOU that formalized collaboration with The Meadows Center and the Wimberley Valley Watershed Association to ensure the design, construction, and educational components for the first One Water School in Texas! The Cypress Creek Project team has continued to meet with WISD’s design team and project managers to incorporate onsite collection, reuse, and additional green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) elements. To learn more about these efforts, read our plan located here on the Cypress Creek Project website, under “Other Project Documents”. Updates will be provided as progress on this project moves along.

If you were not able to make it to our recent stakeholder meeting, the meeting notes and PowerPoints will soon be located here. Please continue reading to learn about what some of our partners are up to, upcoming events, and volunteer opportunities. Don’t forget to visit our Cypress Creek Project website for regular updates and information. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions or to find out more about keeping Cypress Creek Clean, Clear and Flowing at cypresscreek@txstate.edu. We look forward to seeing you out in the watershed!
