Cypress Flows: Cypress Creek Project Quarterly Update

We hope that everyone has been staying cool as we enter the time of the year where the triple digit temperature days seem to be unending, and rain is sparse. Being conscious of your water usage is more important than ever during these next few months, even the seemingly small changes can make a huge difference. The end of this newsletter includes simple conservation tips you can implement right at home.

Our best management practices (BMPs) have been moving along smoothly. Initial construction of the Woodcreek Golf Course rain garden was completed and is now just waiting on the fall planting season, and the Downtown Wimberley permeable pavers construction is complete:

We are currently working on finally getting signs installed at all BMP locations! Additionally, we are working on a guided tour of all the BMPs in the Wimberley Valley that will be available to view on your cell phone or desktop. Be on the lookout for these later this year!

Major progress has been made on the new Wimberley ISD primary school! Ground was officially broken late in July on the One Water campus design spearheaded by The Meadows Center and the Wimberley Valley Watershed Association. Doors are expected to open the Fall 2020 semester - and will be the first school of its kind in Texas. The school will use 90% less water of what a traditional school would use, and the planned green stormwater infrastructure supports the Cypress Creek Project’s mission of keeping Cypress Creek clean, clear, and flowing. To learn more about this project, read Wimberley ISD’s official press release.

We’re looking forward to seeing those of you who can make it out to our Stakeholder meeting and Riparian Workshop at the Wimberley Community Center on September 4th! It’s a great opportunity to learn about how you can help protect and preserve riparian areas. You can RSVP for the workshop here.
