2018 Cypress Creek Walks

In October 2017, Master Naturalists (MN) and Jacobs Well Natural Area (JWNA) staff completed two inaugural Cypress Creek Watershed Walks at Jacobs Well. After receiving a high level of interest regarding the Cypress Creek Watershed and Jacobs Well since the inaugural watershed walks held last year, Hays County staff worked on plans to continue offering watershed walks to both the public and MNs this year. The JWNA will offer watershed walks to both the Public and Master Naturalists once a month from February to May 2018.

Cypress Creek Watershed Walks - 2018 Schedule:

  • March 17 - Saturday 10:00-11:30am
  • April 28 - Saturday 10:00-11:30am
  • May 19 - Saturday 10:00-11:30am

The Watershed Walks characterize the Cypress Creek Watershed and focuses on its functionality by focusing on the geology, stream dynamics and groundwater, the forces that shaped Hays County and the Texas Hill Country. The hike features the many water pathways and how they shape the watershed as well as the environment. The highlight of the hike includes a discussion on the unique underground aquifer system that created Jacobs Well and provides water to the Wimberley Valley. The hike wraps up with a discussion of the water issues facing Hays County and ideas for the future.

These hikes are an addition to its Outdoor Education program also qualifying for Hays MN Advanced Training (AT) credit. Hays MN Tom Jones from Wimberley developed and guides these educational hikes.

Advance reservations for the Watershed Walks is recommended. For more information or to make a reservation, please contact Tom Jones via text at 281-380-2802 or email wimberleytom@gmail.com.
